Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Research Teaching Specialist V for Medical Oncology at the Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey.  
The primary purpose of the Research Teaching Specialist V position, under the direction of the Principal Investigator, Laboratory Manager or Research Teaching Specialist I, is to perform research activities requiring the application of standard techniques and procedures. This includes designing and executing cutting edge experiments in Cancer Immunology and Immunotherapy as directed.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
  • As directed, performs various research and technical operations relative to the ongoing investigatory activities of the laboratory in the areas of Immunology, especially with detailed knowledge of cell culture techniques, animal husbandry, genotyping, PCR, in vivo therapeutic modeling, flow cytometry, and western blotting.
  • Participates in the evaluation of existing procedures, suggesting revisions where necessary, and proposing new procedures where
    required.
  • Assists with training fellows, medical students, and lab technicians in laboratory techniques as directed.
  • Responsible for submitting purchase recommendations to the supervisor.
  • Ensures that laboratory equipment is maintained in good working order

Minimum Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant science.  
Certifications/Licenses
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Effective oral and written communication skills. 
  • Must be computer literate with proficiency and working knowledge of database and reporting tools such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Prior related research experience in Immunology is an asset.

Physical Demands and Work Environment
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Standing, sitting, walking, talking, and hearing. No special vision requirements. Lifting up to 25 lbs.
 
WORK ENVIRONMENT: Laboratory environment. Moderate noise. Exposure to blood, excrement, antineoplastic drugs, and possible exposure to infectious and communicable diseases. Universal precautions are mandatory. Exposure to hazardous chemicals.
