About the Department
The mission of Laboratory Animal Resources (LAR) is to provide NCSU faculty with optimal animal resources. The term “animal resources” includes not only animal housing facilities, but also animal husbandry services, veterinary care, technical services, expertise in laboratory animal technology and medicine, and assurance of compliance with regulatory requirements and institutional policies for animal care and use. LAR is responsible for assisting faculty in conducting animal experimentation in keeping with these standards, and is committed to assuring the well-being of experimental animals while providing services that facilitate their humane and judicious use.
Essential Job Duties
The Service/Teaching Coordinator is responsible for the daily usage tracking of USDA covered species and service requests for teaching and research. This position is classified as mandatory personnel and can require weekend and holiday work.
Additionally, this position is responsible for:
  • Following up on service requests to ensure supplies are in place and signage posted prior to date required.
  • Coordinate with TAU species managers on animal usage request to ensure needs are clear and communicating with users changes needed to which animals they are using for a request.
  • Fill out request forms for corporate users using LAR.
  • Enter usage charges into billing and provide backup billing support for Admin position.
  • Schedule regular vehicle maintenance and fueling for both units.
  • Animal care.
Other Responsibilities
  • Maintain accurate animal records
  • Administer routine medications
  • Maintain sanitation and safety procedures in accordance to regulations
  • Provide and perform duties as requested.

Qualifications


Minimum Experience/Education
Demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work.
Other Required Qualifications
  • Basic knowledge of animal husbandry
  • Ability to maintain accurate animal census records, daily room logs and medical treatment logs
  • Able to lift at least 50 lbs, with or without reasonable accommodations.
  • Ability to understand, update and compile Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in animal husbandry
  • Experience in a wide variety of species care (especially livestock/ poultry/ aquatics)
  • AALAS certifications
  • Experience with customer service and the technical services program
Required License or Certification
Valid NC Driver’s license or the ability to obtain NC license within 60 days of hire.
