Research Support Specialist


 

Required Qualifications (as evidenced by an attached resume):
Bachelor's degree (foreign equivalent or higher) in a bioscience or a related field in hand by June 2023. Experience with research. Experience in operating equipment, carrying out test procedures and using special methods for data collection and interpretation.

Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with microbiology research. Skilled in small animal procedural and infectious disease (for example, inoculations and injections, blood draws, euthanasia, cardiac bleeds, animal dissection, etc.). Basic mammalian cell culture and biological assay skills (e.g., ELISA, PCR, CFU and plaque assays). Experience working under biosafety Level 2 (BSL2) conditions. 

Brief Description of Duties:
Within defined test or analytical protocols, operate equipment, carry out test procedures, as well as collate and interpret data using special methods in support of a research project or program for Dr. Hwan Kim in the Department of Microbiology and Immunology. The successful incumbent will have excellent interpersonal skills, exercising strong organizational and time-management skills with an exceptional attention to detail. Essential for this role is the adeptness to work independently as well as part of a team with a collaborative approach to problem solving.

Duties:

  • Conduct experiments; provide technical laboratory support, and/or animal handling to assist with experiments conducted. Ensure that SOPs are followed when hazardous materials are used in connection with research animals.
  • Perform literature search; staying current in the field by reading and discussing the literature and experimental results with the supervisor.
  • Collect data, record observations measurements and prepare reports for review of the supervisor.
  • Other duties as assigned.
