RESEARCH SUPPORT ASSOCIATE 2, Civil and Environmental Engineering-Chisholm Lab , to join a multidisciplinary group studying the ecology of the marine microorganism Prochlorococcus, the most abundant photosynthetic cell on the planet. The research team focuses on studying this microbe from the genome level to whole ocean scales, using integrative systems biology approaches. Will assist team members by providing computational analysis of multi-omics data. The job responsibilities will include analyzing next-gen sequencing data (i.e., PacBio, Illumina, Oxford Nanopore), assembling genomes, variant calling, processing RNA-Seq data, creating new bioinformatics workflows, implementing improvements to existing workflows, organizing and managing archival data, summarizing acquired data, preparing material for research papers and presentations, and submitting data to repositories.  Research will focus on multiple projects involving the molecular ecology of marine microorganisms. Opportunities to co-author research papers are common.  


Job Requirements

REQUIRED:  high school diploma or its equivalent; exposure to a research lab; bioinformatics experience; knowledge of Python or R; excellent organizational, analytical, and oral and written communication skills; self-motivation; and ability to multitask and collaborate with others.  PREFERRED:  B.S./B.A. in biology or related science field, experience with microbial bioinformatics, and familiarity with high-performance compute clusters.  Job #21923-4
