JOB SUMMARY:

The Wang Lab in the Department of Molecular Pharmacology and Physiology at the University of South Florida (USF) is recruiting an OPS. The overall goal of the Wang laboratory is to understand how cellular signaling regulates specific renal mechanisms linked to kidney diseases and identify potential therapeutic targets for the improvement of renal function and long-term graft survival after organ transplantation. The research programs of the Wang lab are funded by the National Institutes of Health (R01DK122050). See below for the duties and qualifications for this exciting position.

DUTIES:

 

  • Conducts laboratory research protocols in biological science disciplines such as molecular biology, physiology, and pathology (including PCR, mammalian tissue culture, DNA and protein electrophoresis, immunoblotting and immunofluorescence microscopy, and molecular cloning).
  • We utilize rodents as research models for human disease. The candidate is expected to conduct surgical preparations on animals for experimental purposes, encompassing pre-operative, intra-operative, and post-operative monitoring.
  • Maintains logs and records of laboratory techniques, observations, findings, and results. Performs analysis of data using statistical software.
  • The willingness to mentor new lab members on techniques and lab rules, as well as serve as a mentor to undergraduate students is desirable.

QUALIFICATIONS (Education & Experience):

Minimum Qualifications:

Requires High School diploma or equivalent and 1 year of experience. Higher education may substitute for the experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

A bachelor’s degree in Biochemistry, Biology, physiology, or medical science. Basic research animal experience, including blood sampling, post-mortem tissue isolation and compound administration by I.P. and I.V. injection, and mouse husbandry.
