Summary of Duties:

This position will help within the Institute for Research and Education to Advance Community Health (IREACH) to coordinate the recruitment and retention of research study participants for the Family Diabetes Self-Management Education study. The position will recruit Marshallese families in the Seattle metropolitan area, coordinate data collection, and deliver in the Marshallese language a family diabetes-self-management educational curriculum. 
The position will track research study participation and assist with the identification and solutions to participant recruitment and retention issues as needed. This position will prepare human subjects applications and will assist with developing study protocols. This position will coordinate data management and collection, prepare manuscripts for publication, maintain the study budget, and provide day-to-day study oversight.

Job Duties:

Data Activities - 45%

  • Performs data collection (questionnaires, record audio, etc.) Performs data entry into various databases.
  • Reviews, analyzes, and cleans data. Verify accuracy of data and ensures data is properly stored according to policy and procedure.
  • Reviews procedures for collecting and summarizing data and makes recommendations for process improvement.
  • Coordinates with other collaborators on data management.

Human Subjects Activities - 30%

  • Recruits and screens new participants for research projects. Presents informed consent material, ensuring participants understand the study procedures, the data that is being collected, and confidentiality.
  • Conducts interviews with human subjects; administers testing; and records observations. Monitors participants as primary contact for the research study.
  • Maintains project files and participant’s documents organization system ensuring compliance to IRB regulation. Maintains confidentiality of participant records.
  • Problem solves challenges to recruitment, retention, and participant satisfaction with the program.
  • Point of contact for participants for any concerns that arise. Uses independent judgment in resolving the concerns or escalating for higher-level review and resolution.
  • Deliver in the Marshallese language a family diabetes-self-management educational curriculum.
  • Travel as needed.

Project Implementation - 10%

  • Designs, develops and maintains project manual of operation/protocols.
  • Prepares and manages of IRB documents.
  • Monitors project’s progress and troubleshoots areas of concern or deviation.
  • Develops design study and makes recommendations for data collection methods, tracking, and study protocols. Implements methods upon approval.
  • Manages project tracking logs and provides reports to PI on project status.
  • Co-leads project meetings, shepherding team decision-making processes.
  • Communicates with community agencies (clinics, labs, etc.)
  • Schedules meetings and records meetings minutes.

Reporting - 5%

  • Prepares recruitment, data collection and study intervention reports for PIs.
  • Reviews papers/manuscripts, preparing presentations.

Fiscal Budget Activities - 5%

  • Responsible for purchasing including purchase requests, ordering and reimbursements.
  • Submits travel requests, makes arrangements and prepares travel reimbursement requests. Ships materials as needed to project sites.
  • Coordinates payments to participants and billing procedures related to study visits including purchasing, tracking, distributing and internal audits.

Other duties as assigned - 5%

Required Qualifications:

Two years of college-level course work in a relevant academic area AND two years of experience as a Research Study Assistant OR equivalent education/experience.

Additional Requirements:

  • Two years of college course work or associates degree in social work, social sciences, or health sciences or relevant area.
  • Proficient with MS Office software, including Word, Excel, and Access.
  • Biliteral/Bilingual in the Marshallese language.
  • Must have strong written/oral communication and organizational skills and the ability to work independently and as part of a team on multiple projects.
  • Work hours must be flexible to include evenings and weekends when necessary.
  • Possession of a valid and current driver’s license by time of hire.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated knowledge of and experience in working with Native communities including Pacific and Hawaiian Islanders and Marshallese.
  • Experience working in a research environment.
  • Excellent proofreading skills, and a strong attention to detail. Experience working with internet applications.

Range 38, $3,144.00 – $3,887.00

Successful candidates typically begin at the beginning of the salary range and receive scheduled salary increment increases in accordance with WAC 357-28.
