Summary of Duties 

The Research Study Assistant, Research Study Coordinator 1 and the Research Study Coordinator 2 will coordinate and oversee the implementation of research studies and projects through community outreach, developing recruitment strategies by engaging participants, site staff, and community members in the Promoting Research Initiatives in Substance Use and Mental Health (PRISM) Collaborative. 
This position will work predominately on a statewide evaluation of Washington State’s New Journeys program. This position will work closely with mental health clinics across Washington State, community members, providers, and other WSU team members and faculty at the University of Washington. This position will be responsible for recruiting and retaining study participants that meet the requirements of the study. New Journeys is a shared decision-making treatment model between coordinated specialty care centers and youth and young adults experiencing first-episode psychosis.  
Responsibilities in the role include, but are not limited to, IRB and human subjects regulation coordination, study coordination, training clinical sites on New Journeys protocol, monitoring ongoing studies and projects to ensure protocols are met and address any issues, database entry (REDCap), data collection management, data security, and protocol adherence. 
Knowledge of human subjects regulations, policy, and procedures will also be utilized. Experience working with individuals experiencing mental illness and/or conducting community-based mental health research is highly desirable.


Requirements and Qualifications:

Required Qualifications

Research Study Assistant

Two years of college level course work in a relevant academic area AND one year of appropriate experience OR equivalent education/experience.

Research Study Coordinator 1

Two years of college level course work in a relevant academic area AND two years of experience as a Research Study Assistant OR equivalent education/experience.

Research Study Coordinator 2

A Bachelor’s degree in a relevant academic area AND two years of experience as a Research Study Coordinator OR equivalent education/experience.

Additional Requirements:

  • Ability to travel, including overnight, on occasion. 
  • Must have valid driver’s license by the time of hire.
  • Experience working with individuals experiencing mental illness and/or experience conducting community-based mental health research. 


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience recruiting study participants for research studies.
  • Evidence of strong interpersonal skills and competence communicating and working with health professionals, faculty members, researchers, and diverse groups within the general public.
  • Evidence of cultural competency (i.e., possessing the ability to understand, value and respect the attitudes, values, and beliefs that differ across cultures and to respond appropriately and respectfully to these differences).

Monthly Salary:

Research Study Assistant: Range 33, $2,764-3,650/month

Research Study Coordinator 1: Range 38, $3,096-4,117/month

Research Study Coordinator 2: Range 43, $3,480-4,656/month

Successful candidates typically begin at the beginning of the salary range and receive scheduled salary increment increases in accordance with WAC 357-28.
