About the Lab: The Multilingual Aphasia and Dementia Lab (MADR) - The overarching clinical research program is aimed at improving our understanding of how the brain supports speech and language processes and how personalized speech and language interventions improve communication in bilingual speakers diagnosed with neurodegenerative diseases. This position has an end date of 8/31/24 with the potential for renewal.


Purpose

The Research Speech-Language Pathologist will support NIH-funded research project(s) in the MADR lab. They will perform study related tasks including identification and screening of potential participants, consenting, enrollment, scheduling, providing assessment and treatment, transcriptions and all study visit procedures. They will be responsible for data collection, and prepping/overseeing study monitoring visits. They will also be responsible for organizing data and monitoring student progress on project-related tasks.


Responsibilities

  • Coordinate (across international and domestic research sites), plan and implement innovative evaluation and treatment models for individuals with progressive disorders of cognition and communication and their families as part of ongoing research in the Multilingual Aphasia and Dementia Lab.

  • Coordinate participant recruitment, neuroimaging and behavioral data collection and analysis, database management, and generation of presentations and manuscripts from research findings. Work closely with the PI to manage the laboratory including training of incoming personnel. Maintain supplies for the lab, assist with organizational duties (e.g., coordinating regular lab meetings, managing database, creation of and updating of materials and training guides).

  • Lead participant screening, assessment, and treatment for studies examining the nature and management of progressive aphasia and related disorders in bilingual speakers.

  • Supervise undergraduate research assistants and their respective duties towards data collection and research projects in the MADR lab. Ensure that master’s students are completing required steps for data collection and that data are not missing from each time point.


Required Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology with at least four years of related experience.

  • Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech Language Pathology at the national level

  • State level certification/licensure in speech-language pathology

  • Strong oral and written proficiency in both English and Spanish

  • Proficiency with computer applications, including Microsoft Excel, Word, Qualtrics, Smartsheet, Zoom, and Outlook

  • Ability to take initiative in working both independently and in cooperation with others

Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Direct experience providing assessment and treatment to individuals presenting with a communication disorder caused by a neurodegenerative syndrome

  • Experience working with linguistic corpora in English, Spanish and Catalan

  • Previous experience working in a research laboratory

  • Completion of a Master’s thesis

  • Prior research experience in aphasia, dementia, or bilingualism

  • Training in linguistics

  • Strong oral and written proficiency in Catalan


Salary Range

$56,000 + depending on qualifications (salary prorated based on 32 hours per week)


Working Conditions

Standard office and lab conditions.


Work Shift

  • Please note availability will be needed on a variable basis from 7am-7pm depending on needs

  • Occasionally a few hours may be needed over the weekend

  • This position has limited remote hours each week
