Job Summary:

Research in the Nance lab (https://nancelab.crb.wisc.edu ) utilizes the nematode C. elegans to investigate the formation and morphogenesis of organs during development. Current projects focus on development and function of the embryonic gonad, the acquisition of cell polarity, and how biological tubes form during development. The Research Specialist will combine live-imaging approaches, genetic analysis (including CRISPR gene editing), and cell and molecular biology methods to contribute to research projects in these areas. After initial training with the PI and other lab members, the Research Specialist will work independently, under the direction of the PI.


Responsibilities:
Develops, designs, and conducts one or more research projects and organizes daily operation of projects and specialized research areas to ensure work meets established objectives under moderate supervision.
  • 20% Conducts research experiments according to established research protocols with moderate impact to the project(s). Collects data and monitors test results
  • 20% Operates, cleans, and maintains organization of research equipment and research area. Tracks inventory levels and places replenishment orders
  • 20% Reviews, analyzes, and interprets data and/or documents results for presentations and/or reporting to internal and external audiences
  • 20% Participates in the development, interpretation, and implementation of research methodology and materials
  • 20% Collects data and monitors test results, and maintains experimental plans and findings in an electronic notebook

Education:

Required
Bachelor's Degree in the Biomedical or Physical Sciences. Completed or expected by June 2024.


Qualifications:

Applicants should ideally have previous laboratory research experience working with C. elegans or other genetic model organisms, as well as bench experience with molecular biology approaches. Candidates are expected to become independent research scientists who work well in a team environment, and should have outstanding time-management and organizational skills. This position is targeted for those planning to apply to graduate programs in the biological sciences who wish to gain additional laboratory research experience before doing so, including undergraduates completing their degree in Spring 2024.


Work Type:

Full Time: 100%
It is anticipated this position requires work be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location.


Appointment Type, Duration:

Terminal, 28 month appointment.
This position has the possibility to be extended or converted to an ongoing appointment based on need and/or funding


Salary:

Minimum $39,400 ANNUAL (12 months)
Depending on Qualifications
