Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit
The Department of Cell Biology and Physiology is a broad and interdisciplinary basic science department in the School of Medicine at UNC-CH. As a top-ranked, nationally recognized leader in basic science research, our faculty and staff are engaged in innovative and cutting-edge research in the areas of neuroscience, cardiovascular biology, cellular cytoskeleton, cell motility and imaging. The Department houses one PhD program: the Cell Biology and Physiology Curriculum in which there are currently enrolled 48 PhD candidates. The Department has approximately 55 faculty engaged in basic science research, education, and national service. Many faculty and their laboratories provide training for undergraduate and postgraduate trainees in the biomedical sciences. The department also has 2 Core Facilities to expedite the mission of our researchers.
Position Summary
This position will act as Laboratory Manager and will oversee quality and safety of lab facilities and equipment. This includes responsibilities in training and instructing laboratory assistants and students. This position also holds the responsibility as Lab Safety Supervisor making sure that the lab complies with EHS standards and semi-annual checks. This position will also be Lab Animal Coordinator and will oversee all animal care, husbandry, training, surgeries and will write IACUC animal protocols for the laboratory. Intellectual and experimental contributions to journal articles and grants are expected along with continually increasing knowledge in cell biology, proteomics, and zebrafish.
The Cho laboratory in the Department of Cell Biology and Physiology at UNC Chapel Hill studies how skeletal muscle is formed using myoblast cell lines and zebrafish embryos. We employ standard cell biology and chemo-proteomics approaches. Please see http://thecholab.net for more information. We are seeking a long-term laboratory manager.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in a discipline related to the area of assignment; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
- Experience in mammalian cell culture
- Experience in molecular cloning or DNA/protein electrophoresis
- Experience working in a laboratory or biotech industry
- Experience with Microsoft Office and Google Suites
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Preferred qualifications include (1) prior experience working in an academic lab, (2) prior experience in proteomics or fluorescence microscopy, and (3) strong organization and communication skills.
