Position Summary
This posting is for two positions with an anticipated start date of March 1, 2024. The UNC School of Law Institute for Innovation (the Institute) provides early-stage legal counsel to new for-profit and nonprofit ventures. The Institute is comprised of three UNC law clinics supervised by full-time members of the law school faculty: Startup NC Law Clinic, Community Development Law Clinic, and Intellectual Property Clinic. The Postgraduate Legal Fellows (the Fellows) will support each of the three clinics in, among other things, counseling business founders on the advantages and disadvantages of business and nonprofit entity structures, forming appropriate entities, drafting contracts, capturing & licensing intellectual property assets, and seeking tax-exempt status for community-based nonprofit organizations. The Fellows will work closely with and in support of the Executive Director to promote the Institute’s mission, including its legal pro bono initiatives. The position requires a JD. It is anticipated the Fellows will work full-time for one year, with a required one-month break within the one year.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in a discipline related to the area of assignment; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
