MATERIALS RESEARCH CENTER

The Materials Research Center (MRC) at the Missouri University of Science and Technology (Missouri S&T) is seeking applicants for a non-academic, full time Senior Research Specialist to operate, manage, support, and conduct research in the area of analytical electron microscopy of materials, in particular focused ion beam (FIB) instruments.  Primary responsibilities will be the operation and training on a Helios Hydra CX FIB and Helios Nanolab 600 FIB. Cross-training on a Tecnai F20 TEM, Prisma SEM and Raith eLine PLUS e-beam lithography system would be a secondary responsibility. This position reports to the Director of the MRC.

Specific duties include: 

  • Operation of Helios Hydra CX and Nanolab 600 FIB instruments and associated accessories. 
  • Provide training and instructions to users for the FIB instruments and to provide routine maintenance and calibration of the instruments. 
  • Work with student and faculty researchers to develop new electron beam methods of materials characterization. 
  • Conduct demonstrations of the FIB instruments to visiting classes or external groups.  
  • Assist in the teaching of lab courses on the electron beam instruments. 
  • Give presentations covering the capabilities and novel techniques to campus and professional societies.

Full-Time Monday-Friday 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Bachelor's degree and at least 2 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary

Master’s degree with emphasis in an appropriate area of science OR a PhD degree with emphasis in an appropriate area of science is preferred, as well as 3-5 years experience in Electron Microscopy.  Preference will be given to candidates with experience operating a dual-beam FIB system.

$52,223.00 - $64,860.00/annually

Note: Job salary offers are generally made between the salary range minimum and the midpoint of the salary range.
