The position is in the Roussarie lab, in the Department of Anatomy & Neurobiology, which investigates the molecular basis of neurodegeneration in Alzheimer's disease. The lab studies the selective vulnerability of a particular set of neurons as a way to identify genes involved in neurodegeneration. The position will facilitate research on selective neuronal vulnerability by using an array of different techniques and working closely with the PI and future lab members. More generally, the position will be responsible for ensuring continuity and consistency in the lab protocols, reagents and biological materials used by lab students and postdocs. Specifically, the position will manage day-to-day activities in the lab including keeping track of routine reagent stocks, placing orders, maintaining inventories of lab biological samples and lab protocols, training novel lab members on equipment and procedures. The position will also maintain the mouse colony. By setting up mouse breeding pairs, weaning and genotyping mice, and timing mouse pregnancies, the position will generate mouse cohorts that will be used for stereotaxic injections, for cell-type specific profiling, for the quantification of Alzheimer's disease related pathology, and for mouse neuron primary cultures. The position will routinely produce cells for lab experiments, both mouse primary neurons grown from mouse embryos and human neurons differentiated from induced pluripotent stem cells. The position will perform stereotactic injections of viruses in the mouse brain for modulating gene expression in a cell-type specific way. Lastly, in these different study systems as well as in human postmortem tissue, the position will use histological and biochemical assay to evaluate Alzheimer's related pathology.
This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a new BU team, and to gain solid knowledge on molecular neuroscience and Alzheimer's disease.
- Bachelor's degree and 1-3 years of experience required.
- Previous experience with tissue culture strongly preferred.
- Experience working with mice preferred.
