The PI is investigating the mechanisms of neurodevelopmental abnormalities and the development of Alzheimer's disease in Down Syndrome using cell culture-based models. This is a wet laboratory involving cell culture work, experiments with cortical organoids, molecular biology, confocal imaging and data analysis. The lab studies the selective vulnerability of a particular set of neurons as a way to identify genes involved in neurodegeneration. The position will facilitate research on selective neuronal vulnerability by generating human in vitro models, and by using an array of histological and biochemical techniques to assay neurodegeneration. More generally, the position will be responsible for ensuring continuity and consistency in the lab protocols, reagents and biological materials used by lab students and postdocs. In order to liberate time for writing publications and grant proposals, mentoring students, and teaching, the PI needs substantial technical help for day-to-day operations in the lab. This is an exciting position for a suitable candidate who is aiming to gain knowledge and expertise in molecular neuroscience using cell-based models.
Bachelor's degree and 1-3 years of experience required.
