Established in 1950, the Kimberly Research & Extension Center encompasses 180 acres of irrigated land, four greenhouses, laboratories, a seed processing and storage facility, and a potato storage research complex.
KREC provides research and extension programs that support agriculture for the eight counties of the Magic Valley. Research teams investigate disease management techniques, potato storage practices, plant-insect interactions and biological control, and weed management practices.
Position Overview
Performs research activities and analysis, recording observations and measurements, and reports results. Participates in analyzing and preparing results for publication. Works under general supervision.
Duties may include:
  • Preparing standard solutions for calibration and analyses
  • Interpreting test results and comparing with determined standards and limits
  • Collecting laboratory or field data
  • Conducting research and analysis of scientific data
  • Participating in research design discussions
  • Performing literature reviews
  • Preparing reports
  • Comparing data and historical records for trend verification
  • Developing reference files, comparison charts, and graphs on research data
  • Assisting with site inspections and field oversight
  • Having little or no supervisory responsibilities
  • Other duties as assigned

Required Experience

Required Education
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Plant Science, Agriculture, Crop Science, Horticulture, Agronomy, Chemistry, Biology, Environmental Science, Earth Science, Soil Science, Agribusiness, Natural Resources, Agricultural Mechanization, Food Science, Plant Pathology
Required Other
  • Willingness to travel within Southern Idaho and neighboring regions
  • Possess a valid motor vehicle operator’s license and be able to meet policy requirements for driving university vehicles

Additional Preferred
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office
  • Agricultural experience
Physical Requirements & Working Conditions
  • Must be able to lift, carry and/or otherwise move materials weighing up to 50 lbs
Degree Requirement Listed degree qualification is required at time of hire
