Professor Tiago R. Simões seeks a Research Specialist to join his laboratory in the Department of Ecology & Evolutionary Biology at Princeton University. Research in Simões Lab the integrates genomic and phenotypic data from living and fossil species to infer the origin of major groups of vertebrates (with stronger focus in reptiles), their evolutionary relationships, key innovations during major evolutionary transitions, and how these were impacted by climate change across broad taxonomic and time scales. The core responsibilities of the Research Specialist will include: expand/develop code in R for conducting multivariate statistics and deep learning analyses using discrete and continuous phenotypic data; Assist lab members on conducting Python-based Bayesian inference analysis of diversification histories; Managing the lab software and repository resources across Princeton University clusters. Besides duties, the Research Specialist will benefit from playing a leading role in at least one research project, and being a co-author in other projects, providing opportunities for developing their own ideas and contributing to innovation inputs to the lab.



- Expand/develop code in R for conducting multivariate statistics and deep learning analyses using discrete and continuous phenotypic data

- Assist lab members on conducting Python-based Bayesian inference analysis of diversification histories

- Managing the lab software and repository resources across Princeton University clusters.
- Assisting students with minor bioinformatics tasks

 



Essential Qualifications:

- Bachelor's degree in any field of basic sciences or engineering (related to biological sciences preferred).
- Good programming skills in at least one programming language (R or Python);
- Good knowledge of multivariate statistics and at least general knowledge of deep learning models;
- Passion for working as part of a team. Ability to work independently, attention to detail, and meticulous record-keeping. Strong organizational skills and excellent communication skills are also essential.

 

 

Preferred Qualifications:

- Previous experience in data management and data analysis using a variety of statistical and/or machine learning methods
- Application of statistical/deep learning tools to answer biology related questions using either discrete or continuous data
