Overview
The Center for Research on Child and Family Wellbeing (CRCFW) at Princeton University is seeking a Research Specialist II to work on the Future of Families and Child Wellbeing Study (FFCWS) and other CRCFW projects. FFCWS is based on a sample of ~5,000 children born in large U.S. cities between 1998 and 2000, where births to unmarried mothers were oversampled by a ratio of 3 to 1. This sampling strategy resulted in the inclusion of many Black, Hispanic, and low-income families. Mothers and fathers were interviewed shortly after the birth and follow-up interviews were conducted when children were approximately ages 1, 3, 5, 9, 15, and 22. Survey design for an Age 27 wave will begin in summer 2024. This position will have a significant role in survey design for the Age 27 wave and will support Principal Investigators, collaborators, project staff, external researchers, and students using the FFCWS data.
We seek a candidate with a strong ability to communicate about research findings and data resources to a diverse audience through spoken, written, and visual communication methods, online and in-person. The successful candidate will be a self-starter and able to manage projects independently. Excellent analytical, social media, and website skills are required. They should be able to thrive in a flexible, team-based work environment, and be committed to continued learning and training in areas such as data management, statistical analysis, and current communications tools.
This is a full-time, 2-year term position with the possibility of renewal.
To apply, a CV/resume along with a cover letter outlining general interests and career goals is required.
Responsibilities
This position will support public access of FFCWS activities, data, and findings via our website, e-newsletter, research briefs, conferences, social media, and data support email account. This position will participate in survey design, prepare data files and documentation for public and restricted data users, and assist with special projects within FFCWS.
Other responsibilities include fielding questions from data users, assisting students and project staff in using FFCWS data files, producing research briefs and descriptive statistics from study data, and helping maintain an archive of publications from the FFCWS. This position will also take a lead role in developing teaching tools for instructors who would like to use FFCWS data for educational purposes. Additionally, this position may provide support for communications regarding other CRCFW projects, including social media and web material regarding the centerâ™s policy initiatives, other research studies conducted by Dr. Kathyrn Edin, and the Joint Degree Program.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in sociology, social work, economics, psychology, or related field and 3 years of work experience for a quantitative social science research project.
- Superior attention to detail and excellent writing and editing skills.

- Candidates should also have experience with Microsoft applications, including Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint, as well as a track record that indicates they are extremely organized, have high attention to detail, and can work independently with some direction, but know when to ask questions.
- Experience with data analysis and visualization, especially with STATA or R.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Masterâ™s degree in sociology, social work, economics, psychology, public policy, or a related field, with at least 2 years of work experience managing and analyzing large social science datasets using Stata software is preferred.
