Essential Job Duties
The Research Specialist plays a critical role in designing and executing scientific experiments, gathering and analyzing data, and implementing innovative methodologies to enhance research outcomes. This position involves not only conducting experiments but also contributing to the improvement of research quality and team productivity. The Research Specialist assists with grant submissions, manuscript preparations, and provides support for troubleshooting research-related issues. Moreover, they are responsible for managing laboratory operations and communication within the team.
Duties of the Research Specialist include:

  • Designing and carrying out scientific experiments.
  • Gathering, analyzing, and evaluating test and study results.
  • Implementing new methodologies and procedures.
  • Selecting appropriate research strategies and approaches.
  • Proposing methods to enhance research quality and team productivity.
  • Reporting equipment problems and assisting with equipment setup.
  • Assisting with the submission of grants and manuscripts.
  • Responding to research queries and troubleshooting issues.
  • Monitoring current projects.
  • Managing the laboratory and facilitating communication within the team.

At present, this position is listed as time-limited for one (1) year, with a maximum time-limited status of 3 years. However, the position has the potential to become permanent if future funding is secured for its continuation.

Qualifications


Minimum Experience/Education

Bachelor’s degree in a discipline related to the area of assignment; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.

Other Required Qualifications
  • Scientific laboratory research procedures knowledge.
  • Familiar with principles, concepts, techniques, and methodologies of plant tissue culture regeneration and transformation research.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in horticultural crop tissue culture, transformation.
  • Experience in plant cell culture, somatic embryogenesis.
  • Excellent sterile technique and attention to detail.
  • Excellent writing and speaking communication skills.
  • Ability to work well in a dynamic collaborative team environment.
  • Knowledge and/or experience in plant transformation, molecular biology, genetics, and horticulture.
