The Department of Medicine, Division Gastroenterology & Hepatology invites applications for a Research Specialist position. The candidate will contribute to projects focusing on the use of germ-free animals as an experimental model for the study of the role of the microbiome in human diseases. Under the supervision of the primary investigator, the primary job duties for this position include the long-term maintenance of gnotobiotic mouse lines, aerobic and anaerobic bacterial culture methods, DNA extraction, PCR/qPCR, and agarose gel electrophoresis, as well as preparation of samples for offsite diagnostic analysis.  Experience with murine injections (intraperitoneal and intra-venous) and gavage is a plus. The research specialist will contribute to the experimental design of research projects, prepare reports on the results of experiments preformed, maintain detailed records of tasks performed, and assist with the maintenance of the lab.

Bachelor’s degree in science or related field required. Master’s degree in science preferred. A minimum of 3 years related research experience.
