Overview
The core purpose of the Office for Research (Research) is to advance Rutgers preeminence in research and spur economic growth. This office provides services university-wide to support the faculty’s research and strategically leads the university’s economic development activities. Our functions range from supporting the identification of new research funding opportunities and submission of grants proposals to post-award financial management and research regulatory affairs. The office directs research commercialization, including patenting and licensing and serves as a central point for industry access.
Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Research Specialist (Data/Imaging/Image Analysis) for the Office for Research.  An experienced image/data analysis (Research Specialist) scientist is needed to process and analyze the data generated by various multimodal imaging systems (MRI, PET/CT, Ultrasound, Xray-Optical, and nanoCT) and diverse in vivo and ex vivo studies conducted at the Rutgers University Molecular Imaging Center (RUMIC). This position reports to the Director of the RUMIC and will be responsible for all technical aspects of image and data analysis conducted at the Center. This will include properly analyzing, statistically evaluating, presenting, and archiving data and images. Preparation of annotated slide sets, SOPs, and study reports is also included. 
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
  • Responsible for proper data retention, backup, and access. Responsibilities also include auditing the function of the software and hardware of the imaging units and workstations at the Center (i.e., processing speed, disk storage space, RAM). 
  • Interface with immediate research members, collaborators, and other investigators that use the imaging facility and will be responsible for providing oversight for imaging analysis efforts. 
  • Performs diversified laboratory procedures in support of research projects, including preparation of imaging, designing, and conducting in vivo studies using rats and mice, preparation of complex buffers, and dosing solutions. 
  • Prepares statistical reports and presentations, operates imaging equipment, archives data, prepares laboratory data entry templates and SOPs.

Minimum Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience. 
  • A minimum of two years experience in a biological laboratory and proficiency in data analysis skills with successful completion of college-level course work including biology and/or anatomy and mathematics. 
Certifications/Licenses
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Specialized training including the performance, development, and design of protocols, Standard Operating Procedures, Good Laboratory Practices procedures, and laboratory records maintenance is integral for successful collaborations with faculty and external collaborators. 
  • Must be proficient in the use of Word, Excel & PowerPoint Software packages for word processing, data analysis, and for the preparation of presentations. 
  • Proficiency in the use of statistical evaluation packages, such as PRISM, is also required.

  • Master’s degree
  • Knowledge of imaging technologies a plus

Physical Demands and Work Environment
  • Will work near moderately toxic chemicals, radioactive reagents, and Schedule II controlled substances.
  • Potential exposure to animal dander, fluids, and soiled waste as well as cleaning chemicals. 
  • Wearing of Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) could increase body temperature.
  • Will participate in the Rutgers Occupational Health Program for Animal Workers – must undergo post-offer medical evaluation and be approved to work with rodents.
