Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Research Specialist – Data Analyst for the Institute for Health, Health Care Policy and Aging Research. This position constructs statistically advanced programs in SPSS and other software to allow an analysis of data from sensitive datasets and population-based surveys. This role works with investigators and senior staff to implement longitudinal statistical programming and data analyses for population health research. 
Among the key duties of this position are the following: 
  • Participates in implementing federally funded population health research studies and in development of publications reporting results. 
  • Analyzes application of advanced techniques in SPSS software for longitudinal data analysis, data linkage across large datasets, and statistical modeling of outcomes. 
  • Applies and interprets appropriate statistical modeling methods; develops and maintains analytic work plans and documentation, and participates in the preparation of results for journal publication. 
  • Provides data management and statistical programming, with experience in SPSS programming with complex datasets, preferably entailing longitudinal analyses and use of advanced statistical methods.

Minimum Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
  • A minimum of two (2) years of experience in data analysis, programming, and health research. 
Certifications/Licenses
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Experience with statistical programs, including experience with SPSS.
  • Attention to detail, understanding data and programming requirements, documentation of analytic work, discussion with colleagues and team leadership, and reporting of results. 
  • Well organized with strong interpersonal, time management, and analytic skills. 
  • Ability to conduct analyses efficiently and expeditiously while maintaining a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Strong research background, work ethic, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to take initiative and enjoys making sense of complex data, and scientific curiosity.
  • Ability and motivation to progress rapidly in assimilating and applying advanced techniques in statistical analysis and programming, complex data analyses with SPSS and other software, and population health and outcomes research.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Masters degree or higher with graduate coursework in social science, public health, statistics or biostatistics, or related area. 
  • High degree of computer literacy using Windows.

  • Software packages such as SAS, SPSS, R, Stata and other specialized software for statistical programming and complex data manipulation.
