Research Specialist


Job Description

Staff member will serve as project coordinator of one component of a longitudinal study of social determinants of health and respiratory illness (influenza and COVID-19) in Maricopa County. They will engage in all parts of the study including supervising teams of professional interviewers and undergraduate research assistants, coordination with broader study team and clinical partners, tracking and retention of participants, training of participants, maintaining financial records, scheduling assessments, collecting, and managing data. They will also work closely with faculty investigators and other staff members including graduate students, as well as the broader study team.

Essential Duties

  • Lead data collection efforts including tracking and retaining participants into the study, scheduling assessments, data collection, data cleaning and management, assistance with IRB submissions, and maintaining financial databases.
  • Collaborate and communicate with broader research team and clinical partners.
  • Duties also include training and supervising bilingual interviewers as well as undergraduate research assistants.
  • The qualified applicant must have a minimum of 1 year of research experience.
  • Flexible work schedule including some evenings and weekends.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in a field appropriate to the area of assignment AND two years related research experience; OR, Six years research experience appropriate to the area of assignment; OR, Any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.


Desired Qualifications

  • Experience with database management and survey programming.
  • Experience with data analysis, including descriptive statistics.
  • Experience working with protected health information and vulnerable populations including children and families.
  • Work experience in health services or healthcare.
  • Detailed oriented with excellent communication skills.
  • Bilingual in English/Spanish (native speaker).
  • Supervisory experience.

Working Environment

The staff member will join an interdisciplinary research team that includes multiple faculty investigators, clinical research partners, several graduate students, and numerous undergraduate student research assistants. Lab leadership are cross-trained allowing some flexibility. Office space is recently renovated and professional, with partial (20%) telecommuting available.
