Job Description Summary

The Research Specialist will be responsible for: performing experiments using microbiology, biophysics, cell tissue culture, animal models, and chemical techniques; maintenance of the lab’s organization, cleanliness, and inventories; administrative duties, such as orders, communication with the University as a whole and companies, handling shipments and received items, coordinating animal orders, and editing protocol applications and amendments; establishing, coordinating, and assembling lab protocols; mentoring lab members on experimental standards and protocols; supporting lab members on experiments as needed; analyzing and organizing obtained data. Candidates are expected to have a basic background in microbiology.

Job Responsibilities:

The Research Specialist will have the following duties:

-- Perform experiments utilizing microbiology, biophysics, cell tissue culture, animal models, and chemical techniques.

-- Maintain the organization, cleanliness, and inventories of the laboratory.

-- Handle administrative tasks, including placing orders, communicating with the University and external companies, managing shipments and received items, coordinating animal orders, and editing protocol applications and amendments.

-- Establish, coordinate, and assemble laboratory protocols.

-- Mentor lab members on experimental standards and protocols.

-- Provide support to lab members during experiments as needed.

-- Analyze and organize data obtained from experiments.

Responsibility Breakdown:

-- Laboratory and inventory organization and maintenance

-- Experiments (microbiology, biophysics, chemistry, cell tissue culture, animal model techniques)

-- Administrative duties (lab orders, communication with business administrators, the University as a whole, and companies, handling shipments to and from the lab, overall lab maintenance (including equipment), coordination of animal orders, protocol establishment and applications, coordination and preparation of lab protocols, mentoring lab members on experimental protocols as needed, supporting lab members on experiments, analyzing and organizing data, etc.)

-- Perform additional duties as assigned

Qualifications:

Bachelor of Science and 0 to 1 year of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience is required. Candidates are expected to possess a basic background in microbiology. The ideal candidate for the position should possess a solid foundation in microbiology and demonstrate proficiency in conducting experiments using a range of techniques such as microbiology, biophysics, cell tissue culture, animal models, and chemical methods. Strong organizational skills are essential for maintaining the cleanliness, order, and inventories of the laboratory. The candidate should be adept at handling administrative responsibilities, including placing orders, communicating with the University and external entities, managing shipments and received items, coordinating animal orders, and editing protocol applications and amendments. Additionally, the candidate should have experience in establishing, coordinating, and assembling laboratory protocols, including animal experiments. Excellent mentoring abilities are crucial for guiding lab members on experimental standards and protocols, and the candidate should be capable of providing support during experiments as needed. Proficiency in analyzing and organizing experimental data is also a key qualification for this role.
