Georgetown’s National Center for Education in Maternal and Child Health (NCEMCH) , which provides national leadership to the maternal and child health community in three key areas: systems-wide program development, competency-based education, and evidence-based decision making.

Job Overview

The Research Specialist 3 is an essential member of a team of public health professionals, librarian researchers, and information technology specialists - under direction of a central principal investigator – supporting the conduct the public health research, communication, and project management responsibilities across multiple-funded projects that make up NCEMCH, a small research center,

All duties require an equal amount of public health research, communications through technology, and program management, including but are not limited to:

  • Conduct literature searches of the public health knowledge base
  • Create reports, tools, databases, and websites to disseminate this research
  • Participate in virtual technical assistance with state and community-level public health workers on how to implement this research
  • Manage timelines and deliverables across multiple public health grants

Work Interactions

Reporting directly to and working closely with the Center Director/Principal Investigator, the Research Specialist 3 takes on specific tasks assigned on all projects.

They work closely with small teams of other researchers and communication/IT specialists and serve as the bridge between all activities conducted by each team.

NCEMCH is a fully-virtual center with no office space. The unique work of the center allows for great flexibility in conducting the literature research, development of resources, and outreach to state and local health departments across the country.

Requirements and Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in public health or a related knowledge management field, such as library science
  • At least 5 years of professional experience - preferably in a public health or maternal and child health (MCH) setting

Preferred qualifications

  • Familiarity with scientific research and evaluation
  • Ability to use multiple forms of technology to communicate research, including editing web pages (HTML), working in databases (FileMaker), and to disseminate content through email lists (MailChimp), video (Vimeo, Powtoon), and social media (FaceBook, Twitter)
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills, including scientific writing and presentation skills
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills, including the ability to manage multiple tasks and to respond to multiple demands simultaneously
  • Strong interpersonal skills, ability to work well with diverse partners and constituents, and to function as a productive member of a team
  • Comfort with facilitating planning and strategic thinking processes, including collaborative decision-making processes
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to meet deadlines
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively on a team and with diverse partners
  • Experience in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment
  • Flexibility with an ability to maneuver effectively in the face of uncertainty and transition

Salary Range

The expected pay range for this position is $47,586 to $87,558 per annum.

The pay offered to a selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as, but not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the position, the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal equity and external market pay for comparable jobs.
