The Department of Orthopedics has an opening for a part-time University Staff (unclassified) Research Services Professional position.

Nature of Work

Providing expert insight and consulting advice on histology-based methodologies specific to work with musculoskeletal tissues to the Tissue and Molecular Imaging Core Director in the Department of Orthopedics.

Examples of Work Performed

  • Provide as-needed training, via phone or videoconference, in the optimization and execution of protocols to study skeletal tissues at the structural and molecular level
  • Provide mentorship in the areas of histological troubleshooting including but not limited to: proper tissue preparation and processing, problem solving tissue staining artifacts and irregularities and determination of tissue integrity via molecular endpoints
  • Aid in the development of histological endpoint procedures such as immunohistochemistry, immunofluorescence and dye-based tissue staining methods with an emphasis on murine and human bone tissues
  • Provide guidance and troubleshooting advice regarding paraffin and frozen musculoskeletal microtomy

Salary and Benefits:

The salary range (or hiring range ) for this position has been established at $6,600 per year (~$21.15 per hour).

The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.

The above salary range (or hiring range ) represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

Qualifications

 

Minimum Requirements

A bachelor’s degree in public health, public administration, social/behavioral sciences, physical sciences, nursing, healthcare, finance, accounting, business administration, business, or a directly related field from an accredited institution and 1 year of professional level experience in bone histopathology.

Required: Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

Substitution: A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor’s degree on a year for year basis.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Operational understanding of state-of-the-art equipment required to perform musculoskeletal tissue histopathology work
  • Understanding of the methods specific to the histopathologic study of musculoskeletal tissues
  • Strong communication and teaching skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • 10+ years of experience as a bone and cartilage histopathologist
  • 10+ years of experience directing a Core Histopathology Lab
  • 10+ years of experience in the histopathology methods specific to the musculoskeletal field
  • Documented expertise in the installation and operation of equipment used in a musculoskeletal histopathology laboratory
