We are seeking a highly motivated individual for a Research Senior Technician position to assist and support scientific research to study genetics, genomics and breeding in ornamental crops in Dr. Yu Ma’s laboratory in the Department of Horticulture and Crop Science at Ohio State University. The selected individual will independently conduct assigned experiments including DNA/RNA extraction, qPCR, gel electrophoresis, flow cytometry and other related techniques; conduct greenhouse and field experiments for trait characterization and new crop development; perform, record, consolidate and assist with analysis of research for inclusion in grant proposals and manuscripts; prepare research progress reports; conduct literature reviews to obtain information to be utilized in research; assist with training undergraduate and graduate students in research methods and equipment operation; order laboratory regents and supplies, set up and operate lab equipment; assist with other administrative activities including budgets, scheduling and purchases.

Required Qualifications

A Bachelor’s degree in Plant Science, Agriculture, Biology, Genetics, or a related field or equivalent experience and 2-3 years of relevant experience. Experience in a biological/agronomic science research.

Desired Qualifications

4-6 years of relevant experience; excellent attention to detail and accuracy; excellent written, oral communication and critical thinking skills; knowledge of research and laboratory equipment appropriate to the area of the assignment.

This position is for an initial appointment term of one year and may be renewable, depending on both performance and availability of funding.

The salary paid to an individual will vary based on multiple factors, including but not limit to, education, years of experience, internal equity, etc.
