RESEARCH SECURITY OFFICER-LIFE SCIENCES, Office of the Vice President for Research (OVPR)-Research Compliance, to oversee several important compliance functions and support researchers in their safe and secure research computing, data sharing, and storage activities, with a focus on life sciences research activities.  Will provide administrative oversight for research information security, in conjunction with OVPR’s Office of Research Computing and Data and MIT Information Systems and Technology; support MIT’s efforts to promote international research collaborations consistent with applicable laws, regulations, policies, and guidance pertaining to research security; remain abreast of national and state research security compliance trends; maintain awareness of relevant privacy, data security, and data sharing laws in countries where MIT collaborative research is occurring; provide advice on national trends and enforcement activities affecting the research enterprise, including those involving foreign activities; and collaborate on preparing communications for affected members of MIT’s research community.

Job Requirements

REQUIRED:  B.S. in computer science or related field; five years’ relevant experience, preferably in an academic research institution/teaching hospital; progressively responsible administrative experience; comprehensive knowledge of compliance principles, terminology, and regulatory requirements impacting the research endeavors of academic research institutions; excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills; expertise building and managing complex relationships across organizational boundaries and effectively collaborating with diverse audiences that include faculty and staff in units that vary in size and organizational structure; and attention to detail.  PREFERRED: experience managing research security/compliance programs within an R1 academic institution with significant life sciences research; experience with program development and management and research-related administration; proven collaborative, team-oriented leadership skills; and current (or working towards) professional certifications, i.e., CISA, CRISC, etc.  Job #22284-10
