The Dept of laboratory Medicine and Pathology has an outstanding opportunity for Research Scientist.

This research aims to discover ways to determine how mitochondrial function may enhance the cellular regeneration of aging kidneys in response to injury or normative aging.

This person will be the lead technician responsible for maintaining a mouse colony as well as performing bench research for multiple projects in the lab. They will be expected to troubleshoot experiments with some guidance and accurately report and document their findings. This position will also be responsible for training other technicians, undergraduates and high school students in basic laboratory safety and in any techniques in which they are proficient.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Effort Expected: Mouse Colony 15%; Experiments 63%; Reporting Results 12%; training 10%.
Requirements

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Bachelor's Degree in Cell and Molecular Biology or other related fields. Experience may substitute for education.
• 2 years’ experience in biomedical research bench work -or- equivalent combination of experience and educational, postdoctoral and research staff experience in human/animal models of molecular and cellular biology.
• Established record of independent execution of research projects.
• Proven experience with sterile tissue culture, animal handling, regional kidney tissue isolations, sterile minipump surgeries, and in at least 4 of the key activities listed above.

Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

Must have a strong understanding of the scientific principles underlying performed laboratory protocols in order to assist in technical training of junior laboratory members and undergraduate students.

DESIRED EXPERIENCE:

Master’s degree in Biological Sciences preferred. Able to maintain organization across multiple projects, ability to clearly communicate, trouble shoot results and previously demonstrated protocol development. Collaborative team player. Experience working in the fields of either Kidney Biology or the Biology of Aging is not required but will be considered a plus
