Job Summary | Develops research projects and is responsible for scientific design, conduct and interpretation, presenting results and publishing manuscripts. |
Responsibilities | The research scientist will oversee and conduct experiments aimed at understanding sensory processing in the rodent brain. The work will support the overall research program of the laboratory, which is aimed at understanding how the brain represents and processes olfactory information. Approaches will involve whole-animal, anesthetized preparations and optical tools for recording nervous system activity, including two-photon laser microscopy, genetic and viral targeting of defined cell types, and electrophysiological recordings. Specific techniques will be learned, but experience with fluorescence microscopy, neurophysiology, molecular/genetic tools and image analysis are important qualifications. The research scientist will be expected to perform data collection independently and to aid in developing new techniques for recording neural data, including reading current scientific literature and designing new experiments in collaboration with the PI. Minimum Qualifications | Bachelor’s degree in biology, chemistry or other scientific discipline in a related field plus four years of experience or equivalency required. Demonstrated human relations and effective communication skills also required. Applicants must demonstrate the potential ability to perform the essential functions of the job as outlined in the position description. |
Preferences | Candidates with experience in animal behavior, in vivo imaging, and/or strong computational skills are encouraged to apply. |
