Research Scientist

Job Summary:

Responsible for planning and designing complex cellular and molecular experiments (e.g., follow cytometry, cloning, microbiome research etc.) addressing gut and brain homeostasis in health and disease, as well as monitoring, coordinating, analyzing, and producing scientific content for basic research that can lead to clinical results. Manages and reviews the medical writing of study protocols, manuscripts with statistical and bioinformatic analyses, and study reports.

 

Job Duties:

1.     Develops, designs, and executes large and complex basic and clinical research projects, reviews progress, analyses data and evaluates and present results.

2.     Formulates research methods and suggests options for improving quality; identifies potential problems and recommends and implements solutions.

3.     Consults with the principal investigator to refine or adapt methodologies to fit research requirements; collaborates in development of new techniques and instruments.

4.     Organizes/maintains the laboratory, researches and recommends equipment, and maintains documentation and storage of biomaterials.

5.     Co-authors/authors scientific publications; presents at meetings and conferences; participates in acquiring research funding including writing grant proposals.

6.     Manages and reviews medical writing of study protocols, statistical and bioinformatic analysis and study reports.

7.     Performs all other duties as assigned. 

 

Education:

Master's degree in related field is required.
Doctorate degree is preferred.

Experience:

Two (2) years of related experience is required.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

1.     Demonstrated ability to organize and coordinate cellular and molecular works within schedule constraints and handle emergent requirements in a timely manner.

2.     Demonstrated ability to monitor important and complex projects concurrently.

3.     Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Prisms, Excel, PowerPoint, Photoshop, and Lotus Notes/other email software.

4.     Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate verbally and in scientific writing, to include writing and preparing memorandums, letters, manuscripts, and other official correspondence.

5.     Demonstrated knowledge in cellular and molecular biology, microbiology, animal handling, cloning, flow cytometry, and data analysis.
