 The University of Oklahoma (OU) invites applications for a joint appointment as a Research Scientist with a focus on defense/security related supply chain and the application of artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) tools. This position is instrumental in realizing our vision of establishing a Center of Excellence in Defense Supply Chain at OU-Norman campus. This position will work collaboratively with the Oklahoma Aerospace & Defense Innovation Institute (OADII) and the Data Institute for Societal Challenges (DISC), both integral parts of OU’s commitment to cutting-edge research. The Research Scientist – Defense Supply Chain will work with DISC and OADII leadership teams, as well as affiliated OU faculty to identify and develop research and funding opportunities; architect and lead software solution development, assist with building faculty teams on the development of research grant proposals; and establish collaborative relationships with federal, state, and corporate affiliates on strategic initiatives. 

Required Functions May Include:

  • Conduct innovative research in the field of AI/ML with a strategic emphasis on defense-related supply chain risk management and predictive analytics.
  • Develop and implement advanced algorithms and models to address challenges in the defense sector.
  • Contribute to the strategic planning and vision for research activities related to defense supply chain risk management.
  • Identify opportunities for growth and innovation in collaboration with federal agencies.
  • Lead and contribute to the development of grant proposals to secure funding for research projects.
  • Ensure alignment with the university's research priorities and the strategic goals of OADII and DISC in the area of defense supply chain.
  • Establish and nurture partnerships with federal agencies and industry partners to enhance collaboration and research initiatives in the area of supply chain resilience and security.
  • Actively engage in networking activities to foster relationships with industry leaders and government agencies.
  • Performs various duties and assists with other projects as needed to successfully fulfill the function of the position.
 

Job Requirements

Required Education: Advance degree appropriate to the field of research OR a combination of related education and at least two years of research experience.


 Skills:

  • Applicants must have dynamic skill sets that will contribute to the research, analysis, and improvement of defense supply chain resilience using various AI/ML techniques.
  • Attention to detail and a demonstrated acumen for problem-solving skills and judgment.
  • Ability to work independently with sensitive and confidential information, maintain a professional demeanor, work as a team member without daily supervision, and effectively communicate with diverse groups of faculty, staff, and outside stakeholders.
  • Desire to employ new and innovative AI/ML tools and research methods for developing novel approaches to current defense supply chain challenges.
  • Proven track record of successful collaboration and partnership development.

Department Preferences:

  • Experience working with DoD or other federal agencies.
