The John Glenn College of Public Affairs is a leading public affairs college that conducts rigorous academic research and translates and applies that research for public, nonprofit, and private partners.  Criminal justice administration is a growing area of expertise within the college with multiple faculty and students involved in criminal justice research projects, and an array of technical assistance and training partnerships with criminal justice organizations.  The Criminal Justice Administration Research Scientist will collaborate with Glenn College faculty, students, and staff members to identify, develop, submit, secure, and manage federal, state, local, and foundation grants for funding to conduct research on criminal justice administration.  The Research Scientist will be expected to generate extramural funds to cover attendant salary and benefit costs of the position.  The Research Scientist will serve as principal investigator and co-principal investigator on extramurally funded projects and will present and publish research findings in technical reports and peer-reviewed manuscripts. Over time, the Research Scientist will help build and manage a team of researchers and support staff to manage the implementation of funded projects.  The Research Scientist will also collaborate with the Glenn College’s Professional Development team to develop and deliver technical assistance and training programs for criminal justice professionals.  Additional duties include overseeing grant administration; data documentation and security; and staff management.

Responsibilities:

The Research Scientist identifies, develops, submits extramurally funded research projects in criminal justice administration. Hires and manages staff to conduct research projects and administer technical assistance projects. Publishes and presents research in the form of technical reports and peer reviewed manuscripts. Collaborates with Glenn College professional development staff to develop and deliver technical assistance to external partners


Additional Information:

This is a term position with potential to be extended up to three years, based on t he ability of the Research Scientist to generate extramural funds to cover attendant salary and benefit costs of the position. 

Minimum Requirements

Doctorate in Criminology, Criminal Justice, Criminal Justice Administration, Public Administration, Public Policy, or related field.  Candidate must have extensive research experience in criminal justice or related field with a track record of authored publications.  Candidate must have the ability to secure external funding to cover attendant salary, benefits, and a related research program.  This position is contingent upon the candidate qualifying for principal investigator (PI) status through the Ohio State University Office of Research.
