What we want

The Research Scientist is a senior-level position. The primary responsibility is to perform economic analysis related to real estate economics for the State of Texas, to produce reports based on the findings, and to disseminate those findings through articles and presentations. The researcher will also participate in staff meetings, assist with seminar planning, and collaborate with others as assigned. Salary Range: $150,000.00 - $200,000.00 (based on experience)

Required Education and Experience:

  • Appropriate PhD

  • Six years of applied economic analysis in housing or commercial real estate economics

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Proven ability to effectively communicate with a variety of audiences in industry, academics and government via written articles and oral presentations

  • Experience with analytical software such as R, SAS, Eviews or others

  • Ability to travel in-state to perform speaking duties

  • Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • PhD in economics, finance, real estate, or related program

  • Ten years of applied economic analysis in housing or commercial real estate economics, with industry experience

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct Real Estate Economic Research - Performs as a senior-level researcher in the unit with a focus on the Texas real estate economy. Has expertise in housing or commercial finance or economics. Defines data needs. Utilizes data and other resources to design and conduct research projects. Evaluates, analyzes and develops economic models to interpret findings. Develops standardized, repeatable reports of trends and analysis of economic activity. Stays abreast of the latest and most appropriate research methodologies and applies best practices. Implements high level of integrity in data collection and maintenance. Able to maintain objectivity and neutrality in all aspects of research. Prepares reports of findings. Reviews and comments on technical accuracy of manuscripts and research proposals. Stays informed of economic conditions and financial and real estate markets.

  • Disseminate Findings - Disseminates findings through written articles, oral presentations, media interviews, and other means. Writes technical and industry articles on research findings, data search and processing, econometric-statistical analysis, and forecasting for publication in print and online. Coordinates with unit editorial staff to create articles and oral presentations of findings for a wide array of audiences, such as state, industry, municipalities and individuals. Responds to requests from external constituencies with expert information.

  • Other Responsibilities - Collaborates with other researchers on projects as needed. Participates in scheduled research staff meetings. Assists research director to identify and define research projects and resource requirements. Plan and participate in relevant Center seminars. Develop other projects as assigned.

  • External Liaison - Develops and maintains relationships with recognized institutions and organizations in the real estate industry in Texas to expand the Center s public exposure and to foster collaborative efforts. Performs other duties as assigned.
