PURPOSE

The Conrad Blucher Institute for Surveying and Science at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi is seeking a highly qualified Research Scientist specializing in Interferometric Synthetic Aperture Radar (InSAR) to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing and implementing research projects using InSAR technology to address a range of geoscientific challenges. This position offers the opportunity to work with a dynamic team of scientists and researchers in a collaborative environment.  This position is contingent on extramural funding.

DESCRIPTION

InSAR Data Analysis: 50%

Job Duties

  • Acquire InSAR data from satellite missions and coordinate ground-based radar measurements
  • Process data using specialized software.
  • Analyze InSAR data to generate high-quality, interpretable results and contribute to the development of new InSAR data processing techniques.
  • Use geological knowledge and additional data sources (e.g., GPS, ) to interpret the observed deformation patterns in terms of underlying geophysical processes.
  • Employ statistical and computational models to analyze data trends, predict future movements, and assess risks associated with natural hazards.

Design and Conduct InSAR-based Research Projects: 45%

Job Duties

  • Design and conduct InSAR-based research projects and methodologies
  • Plan data acquisition strategies
  • Contribute to the preparation of research proposals, reports, and scientific publications.
  • Stay current with the latest developments in InSAR technology and geoscientific research.
  • Contribute to the development of new methodologies and technologies to enhance the capabilities and applications of InSAR.
  • Manage project timelines, budgets, and resources to ensure the successful completion of research objectives.
  • Supervise and mentor junior researchers, students, or technical staff involved in the project.

Research Field Operations: 5%

Job Duties

  • Plan and coordinate field campaigns to collect ground-based measurements that complement and validate InSAR satellite data
  • Assist with the deploying of ground-based reflector systems, GPS receivers, and other geodetic instruments to measure earth surface movements and environmental conditions
  • Position requires occasional travel, to off-site locations, for the performance of job duties, which may include work outside of normal business hours.  Field activities often occur in extreme weather conditions (hot or cold) and may require duties to be performed from a vessel.
  • Other duties as assigned.

WHAT YOU WILL NEED

  • Ph.D. in geomatics, geography, remote sensing, or a related field.
  • Six (6) years of related work experience, to include three (3) years working with In SAR classification and processing, and five (5) years of experience in Geographic Information System (GIS) and related software tools.
  • Expertise in InSAR classification and processing.
  • Strong knowledge of InSAR processing techniques (classical, SBAS, PS) .
  • Experience in InSAR processing using MintPy, Jupyter Notebooks, and Open Science Lab.
  • Strong Knowledge of ESA SNAP InSAR/SAR software.
  • Experience with InSAR time series analysis and/or multi-temporal InSAR techniques.
  • A track record of peer-reviewed publications in the field of InSAR and geophysics.
  • Create, manipulate, and maintain spatial data from various sources using ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online, ArcGIS Enterprise, and other relevant geospatial software tools.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and deliver results in a timely manner.
  • Assess and prioritize multiple tasks and projects in a fast-paced office environment, meeting deadlines and project requirements.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent project management and organization skills.
  • Experienced in workflow design and technical documentation.

WHAT THEY WOULD LIKE TO SEE

  • Experience with ArcGIS Enterprise (Server and Portal) and Online Platforms.
  • Relevant experience in programming languages such as Python, MATLAB, or R.
  • Effectively communicate complex GIS concepts and analytical results both orally and in writing to stakeholders and team members.
  • Familiarity with geodetic data processing and geospatial analysis tools.

SALARY: $6,250.00 - $8,333.34 MONTHLY ($75,000.00 - $100,000.00 ANNUAL, APPROXIMATELY)
