Job Overview
As one of the oldest medical schools in the country, the UC College of Medicine has a reputation for training best-in-class health care professionals and developing cutting-edge procedures and research that improves the health and clinical care of patients.
A Research Scientist position is available in the laboratory of Dr. Eric S. Wohleb in the Department of Pharmacology & Systems Physiology at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine. Studies in the lab seek to understand how neuron-microglia interactions contribute to synaptic plasticity in physiological and pathological conditions. The lab uses multiple molecular and cellular techniques to examine neurobiological adaptations that shape behavior and cognition, including: flow cytometry/ fluorescence-activated cell sorting (FACS), cell type-specific RNA-Seq, neuropharmacology, viral-mediated gene manipulations, neuronal modulation via chemogenetics, knock-out/ inducible Cre-recombinase transgenic mice, and confocal microscopy/ 3D image analyses. The candidate will be provided with extensive training in research areas with which he/she is less familiar, as well as professional development opportunities.
Essential Functions
- Modify and adapt experimental protocols, techniques and procedures to specific project requirements.
- Design, coordinate and conduct experimental procedures.
- Prepare research results and written summaries of results in manuscript form for publications and in graphics form for presentation at research meetings and for grant proposals.
- Maintain and ensure compliance with regulatory protocols and records.
- May provide direct and/or indirect supervision to exempt and non-exempt staff (i.e., hiring/firing, performance evaluations, disciplinary action, approve time off, etc.).
- Perform related duties based on departmental need. This job description can be changed at any time.
Required Education
Ph.D in Neuroscience, Immunobiology, or related field.
Required Experience
The candidate should have experience in standard research skills, including standard molecular and cellular biology techniques as well as prior work with rodents.
Additional Qualifications Considered
Experience in advanced molecular techniques (i.e., FACS, RNA-Seq) and flow cytometry and its applications is desired.
