The Department of Psychiatry at the University of Florida College of Medicine – Jacksonville has an opening for Molecular Biologist with expertise in peptide hormone assay in a Senior Scientist role. Join our team to help build powerful translational models of epigenetic change in response to early environment, for applications ranging from model system development to human behavioral and neural prediction and intervention.

We invite applications from researchers with training in hormones and hormone receptors measurement and manipulation, biomarker development, and model system neuroscience approaches to lead an arm of a translational neurosciences project focusing on measurement and manipulation of neurohypophyseal peptides and their receptors. The researcher will have the opportunity to collaborate closely with colleagues at both the Jacksonville and Gainesville campuses of the University of Florida, and to initiate work with modeling changes in neurohypophyseal peptides in response to early environmental change. In addition, the researcher will take on a senior role in the team management and the laboratory. The scientist will help train lab members in common molecular biological bench skills, assist lab members with molecular assays for measurement of the oxytocin system and other neuropeptides and biomarkers for ongoing projects when needed. The scientist will administer relevant regulatory protocols for biosafety work, maintain detailed scientific records of their work, and help keep laboratory safety standards. The scientist will have the opportunity to write high quality scientific papers, aid in drafting grant proposals, and present research results at national or international conferences. Expected Salary:

$125,000

Minimum Requirements:

Completion of MD and PhD in Biomedical Science or a related discipline with an emphasis in peptide assay development and a minimum of five (5) years hands-on postdoctoral training experience in a neurohypophyseal peptide laboratory. Required technical skills: basic molecular biology, experience in assayng various peptides in human and animal samples, RNA quantitation using single gene techniques, and cell culture. 

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience in development and analysis of ELISA and other molecular and cellular assays is desired. A record of high-quality research as demonstrated by publications in top tier journals and external presentations is required. A deep mechanistic understanding of the cellular/molecular pathways is highly desired. Strong team management skills, ability to work with minimal supervision in a collaborative framework and demonstrated eagerness to learn new techniques and skills is required.
