Job Summary | The Boll laboratory is focused on understanding how the Gram-negative cell envelope contributes to antibiotic treatment failure in clinically important pathogens, with the goal of designing and developing new antimicrobial therapies and strategies for treatment (for more info, see laboratory publications). We are looking for highly motivated candidates with an M.Sc. or Ph.D. in molecular microbiology with preferred candidates having extensive molecular biology experience. The ideal candidate would be tasked with independently pursuing research areas relevant to laboratory goals and training junior scientists. Multiple projects are available that focus on dissecting the molecular mechanisms that contribute to antibiotic treatment failure based on the cutting-edge technical platforms including live-cell imaging, sequencing, lipidomics and proteomics |
Minimum Education and Experience | - Master’s degree in field directly related to research – Two (2) years of experience/expertise performing research relating to a specified field of study – Or equivalent combination of relevant education and experience totaling at least eight years. |
Preferred Education and Experience | A Ph.D. in a relevant field is preferred. Experience with microbial genetics, biochemistry, and fluorescent microscopy is also preferred. |
Essential Duties and Responsibilities | The successful applicant should have a proven academic publication track record, including first-authored publications in high-profile journals, as well as excellent scientific, organizational, record-keeping, problem-solving skills. The candidate will conduct independent research by characterizing bacterial resistance phenotypes in a range of clinically important pathogens using cellular and molecular biology approaches including genome-wide gene, protein, and lipid profiling analysis. Candidates offering new approaches to study expertise will be prioritized. The selected candidate will also be encouraged to explore new research in antibiotic resistance and potentially seek independent funding as part of their own career development. |
