Record showing published work in genome assembly and gene model annotation as well as RNA-Seq and ATAC-Seq analysis.


Job Description:

The Ecology, Evolution, and Organismal Biology (EEOB) Department at Iowa State University is seeking a Research Scientist IV. The Hufford Laboratory in the EEOB Department at Iowa State University, studies the processes of initial maize domestication and subsequent adaptation to a number of different environments during global crop diffusion.  Such studies can inform our understanding of the domesticated phenotype and provide the basic information necessary for plant breeding in the face of climate change. Through optimization of genome assembly and annotation in the genus Zea, the Hufford Lab has generated critical resources necessary for comparative genomics and evolutionary inference in the maize model system.

Summary
Responsible for the operation of a highly complex or specialized research area or laboratory.
Example of Duties
• Develops, designs and conducts one or more large and highly complex research projects, reviews progress and evaluates results.
• Formulates novel research methods and suggests options for improving quality, identifies potential problems, recommends and implements solutions, and collaborates in the development of new techniques.
• May act as a principal investigator for nationally and internationally recognized research.
• Authors manuscripts, writes grants, and generates new ideas for research.
• Conducts analysis of data, interprets and implements research methodology based on outcome of analysis.
Level Guidelines
• Expert-level position possessing advanced professional and/or technical skills working under limited or no supervision
• Applies high-level professional knowledge and expertise to focus on ISU’s mission and meeting division, department or work unit goals
• Solves complex issues using highly-developed problem resolution skills
• Regularly provides recommendations regarding problems/issues outside the bounds of defined procedures and practices
• Utilizes high-level professional knowledge and expertise to provide guidance, recommendations, and set standards related to strategy, policy, and mission
• Leads projects of moderate to high scope and complexity with broad impact
• May provide supervision to other department staff (i.e., leads a small work team)
