RESEARCH SCIENTIST, Koch Institute (KI) for Integrative Cancer Research -Irvine Lab , to oversee the daily operations of an academic research laboratory, actively participate in the training of postdoctoral fellows/graduate students/undergraduates/technicians, and perform primary research as needed to explore new ideas or help bring ongoing projects to publication.  Responsibilities include designing and executing experiments to support HIV and cancer vaccine studies in multiple animal models; documenting and presenting results; hiring and managing lab research support staff; mentoring junior postdocs and grad students on scientific method development; managing internal and external collaborations; participating in translational research, including preclinical studies supporting clinical trials; maintaining detailed records of sample inventory and protocols; serving as primary contact for laboratory staff and participating in and/or overseeing--in close collaboration with the principal investigator (PI) and other lab members--the lab’s research activities; and collaborating to maintain a workplace that embraces teamwork and inclusivity.  

Job Requirements
REQUIRED: Ph.D. in a related scientific field; four years of experience working in a research laboratory; experience in immunology and/or cancer biology, experience with immunoassays (ELISA, ELISPot, flow cytometry); strong technical/scientific writing, interpersonal, verbal communication, presentation, time-management, planning, problem-solving, and organizational skills; supervisory and project management experience; and the ability to work as part of a diverse team and promote collaboration and cooperation among teams.  Seek a self-motivated immunologist who can work and make decisions independently and enjoys working in a fast-paced academic environment.  Job #20591
