Summary

Operating Title Research Scientist I
Long Classification Title Research Scientist I
Campus Location Durham
Department UNH COLSA Natural Resources & the Environment
Summary of Position
The Wildlife Modeling and Management Lab at the University of New Hampshire seeks a research scientist to work on multi-year wildlife projects, particularly focused on evaluating cause-specific mortality of fishers (Pekania pennanti) in New Hampshire. This research lab is led by Dr. Remington Moll and our work is focused on wildlife ecology, spatial ecology, and applied aspects of wildlife population dynamics. The project is collaborative with Dr. David Needle of the UNH Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory.
This position will lead field efforts for a large-scale effort to understand survival and mortality in fishers across multiple regions of New Hampshire. The fieldwork involves live-capture of fishers at various field sites to deploy satellite GPS collars on individuals and real-time tracking of collared fishers. Thus, the position requires substantial field and logistical experience, including confident navigation of off-road terrain in various vehicles (trucks, ATVs, snowmobiles), field logistic troubleshooting, study design planning, and personnel management (i.e., field technicians). Additional duties will include data collection, curation, and manipulation, and contribution to various complementary field and logistical efforts as needed.
Applicants should also expect to collaborate effectively with private landowners, trappers, and biologist colleagues at the New Hampshire Fish and Game Department and the University of New Hampshire. Thus, clear communication and positive personal relationship skills with a diversity of individuals are critical.
