The University of Washington’s Division of General Internal Medicine (GIM) is considered to be among the top Divisions of General Internal Medicine in the nation.  The Division has a workforce of over 500, with 435+ faculty members who are known for their outstanding research, teaching and patient care.

The Division conducts its activities at the UW Medical Center (UWMC-Montlake and Northwest), Harborview Medical Center (HMC), and the VA Puget Sound Health Care System (VAPSHCS) and VA Boise, with research sites located at multiple sites across Seattle. GIM has faculty in seven academic primary care clinics as well as in neighborhood clinics located across the Puget Sound, and manages inpatients at four Seattle area hospitals.

GIM is the largest division in the Department of Medicine and includes both clinical and research functions with a total annual budget of over $100m. There are over 30 research faculty with 85 staff, 125 current grant, contract and gift budgets and annual research expenses of $15 million per year. Faculty and staff are spread over 10+ sites around Seattle and the Puget Sound as well as in Boise, Idaho.

The Cardiovascular Health Research Unit (CHRU) within the Division of General Internal Medicine has an outstanding opportunity for a full-time Research Scientist/Engineer 3. The Research Scientist/Engineer 3 for the CHRU will serve as analyst and data manager for several related epidemiologic studies of cardiovascular diseases, including the Cardiac Arrest Blood Study and ancillary studies to the Strong Health Study, the Cardiovascular Health Study (CHS), and the Multi-Ethnic Study of Atherosclerosis. The individual hired will be responsible for collaborating with scientific and administrative personnel of the CHRU, the UW CHS Coordinating Center, and the UW Collaborators in Laboratory Medicine and Medicinal Chemistry. The hired individual would manage scientific and administrative aspects of the studies; including managing study data, conducting data analyses, and assisting with the preparation of grant proposals.

The Cardiovascular Health Research Unit (CHRU) is a complex unit with an international reputation, whose investigators collaborate with many research faculty and investigators within the UW community as well as many other universities and institutions, both nationally and internationally. The Unit is comprised of 3 co-directors, 8 investigators (from General Internal Medicine, Cardiology, Epidemiology and Biostatistics) and 20 research staff. The Unit manages approximately 40 research awards, totaling over $15 million annually. The individual hired for this position will plan and implement research in cardiovascular epidemiology and big data omics analysis.

The Research Scientist/Engineer 3 (E S UAW RSE) will be accountable for the primary implementation of research as the Project Data Manager and Analyst for cardiovascular epidemiologic studies.
