The Department of Chemical Engineering has an outstanding opportunity for a Research Scientist/Engineer 3 to join their team.

POSITION PURPOSE
This position will carry out research funded by a new NSF award. It involves work at the interface of microbiology, molecular genetics, analytical chemistry, and environmental science. The goal is to engineer methane-utilizing (methanotrophic) bacteria for enhanced growth at low methane. This work has applications in climate change mitigation.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
In this role, the Research Scientist 3 must have a thorough understanding of research involving bacteria that grow on methane, be familiar with relevant published literature in this area, have core technical expertise in microbiology, genetics, and analytical chemistry and be capable of communicating proficiently with principal investigator, other lab members, and sponsors. They must be able to independently evaluate, select, apply and trouble-shoot laboratory protocols, and must develop new technical approaches as needed. They work under the general guidance of the PI.  Tasks are as follows:
