The Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences within the UW School of Medicine is the third largest clinical department  with 285 full-time faculty members, 280 clinical faculty members, and over 200 staff. Department faculty provide clinical services in 5 hospitals, 14 primary care locations, and several outpatient sites in addition to telepsychiatry consultations to more than 150 clinics in Washington and beyond. As the only academic psychiatry department serving the five state WWAMI region (Washington, Wyoming, Alaska, Montana, Idaho), the Department’s highly competitive residency training program is largely responsible for developing the mental health workforce in the Pacific Northwest. The Department’s robust research portfolio totals $35 million in grants and contracts per year for projects ranging from clinical neurosciences to treatment development to health policy and population health. The Department is recognized as an international leader in developing, testing, and implementing Collaborative Care, an integrated care model increasingly seen as a solution for population-based mental health care. Other areas of excellence include Addictions, Autism, High Risk Youth, Neurosciences, and Trauma, and the Department is developing innovative new programs in Technology and Mental Health, Global Mental Health, Maternal and Child Mental Health, and Targeted Intervention Development.

The Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences is recruiting for a Research Scientist/Engineer.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
• The position will involve working on/providing leadership for one or more multi-site projects, each of which involves complex intervention and assessment design, recruitment, retention, and longitudinal data management/analysis activities. The position will require advanced technical design of prevention and intervention materials and consultation with/coordination of intervention and assessment programming; project management and communication leadership between teams and individuals with diverse skillsets; interface with IRBs/protocol approval authorities; and the ability to manage datasets with varying structures.
• The position will involve communication between funders and/or liaisons for funders, stakeholders outside of UW, and recruitment site(s) to insure compliance of contractual obligations and recruitment, support and engagement of the research.
• The position will involve taking both a lead and supporting role in the preparation of publications in peer reviewed journals. As a lead author, the position will require crafting the research question, gathering information on past relevant research, managing and/or analyzing data specific to the research questions(s), and contributing to the authorship of all parts of journal articles. 

REQUIREMENTS:
• Master’s Degree  in Sociology, Psychology, Human Development, or related field
• Two years work related experiences.
• Expertise with technical design and development of prevention and intervention materials, particularly in areas of behavioral health.
• Knowledge of usability assessment/ user experience in design of online materials and interfaces.
• Expertise with project management including use of JIRA.
• Online survey tools such as survey monkey or Qualtrics or related programs.
• Project management/leadership of multi-disciplinary and/or multi-site teams.
• Up-to-date knowledge of research on the etiology of and preventive interventions for marijuana and alcohol misuse and other health risk behaviors among young adults; expertise with research recruitment and retention particularly in a military environment; experience with publication and dissemination of results

Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.

DESIRED EXPERIENCE
• Specific experience in developing products with user-centered design approach. Experience using Figma. Training in UX Design
