The Department of Physics has an outstanding opportunity for a Research Scientist/Engineer 3 (E S UAW RSE) working with the ATLAS experiment at CERN and the Large Hadron Collider (LHC).  This work focuses on the computing for the ATLAS experiment.

The Research Scientist/Engineer 3 will work under limited supervision of the PI and the experiment’s Computing and Software group and play a leading role in the development and operation of ATLAS’s computing infrastructure.  The responsibilities for this position encompass a range of critical operational tasks. The successful candidate will be responsible for escalating facility-specific issues within the US to the central operations teams, ensuring prompt and effective resolution. They will also provide monitoring and troubleshooting support to enhance the coverage of US Cloud operations. A key aspect of the role involves coordinating with the OSG-LHC team to oversee software changes that impact various operational facets, including compute entry points, storage endpoints, accounting services, network troubleshooting and analysis, and cybersecurity measures. Additionally, the individual will assist with experiment-wide challenges, such as helping to lead the critical token transition, and attend all relevant operations and WLCG coordination meetings.
