Research in the Gale laboratory is focused on understanding the processes that trigger and control innate immunity and inflammation to program the immune response against RNA virus infection, and to define the virus-host interactions that control viral replication and the outcome of infection and immunity. We are also focused on defining the systems biology and innate immune interactions of acute and chronic microbial infection toward building interventions to fight disease and improve global health.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

General Duties: The employee occupying this position will, under general guidance from the principal investigator:
• Perform virologic and immunologic research in an immunology laboratory. This work will be focused on assessing the virus/host interactions that control innate immunity and the outcome of infection by flaviviruses.
• Performs established virologic and immunologic assays, while also using judgement to make minor modifications to optimize the execution of specific research projects.
• Optimize and perform complex immunologic and antiviral assays in vitro tissue culture systems.
• Develop extensions of existing methods and protocols.
• Perform molecular biology techniques including PCR analysis, western blotting, qRT-PCR, and cDNA cloning.
• Organize and record data; detailed and meticulous record keeping is required.
• Assist other laboratory members with experiments.
• Perform routine data analysis and assist in the quality control of data.
• Participate in laboratory meetings and perform related duties as required.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
• MS in biological sciences or related field with up to 3 months of relevant or equivalent experience. 

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
• Must be able to work independently and have a strong attention for detail.
• Must be highly motivated with excellent time management skills
• Ability to organize and maintain accurate records
• Experience using EXCEL, PowerPoint
• The ability to work in a team environment and laboratory setting.

Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.

DESIRED EXPERIENCE:
• Experience with performing virologic and immunologic assays
• Experience Performing molecular biology techniques including PCR analysis, western blotting, qRT-PCR, and cDNA cloning.
• BS in biological sciences or related field with 1-3 years lab-related experience.
