About Genome Sciences:
The Department of Genome Sciences (GS) is part of the University of Washington School of Medicine (UW SoM) and is comprised of 30 labs addressing leading edge questions in biology and medicine by developing and applying genetic, genomic and computational approaches taking advantage of genomic information now available for a host of species.  GS is making major contributions in the application of genome science to understand the fundamentals of biology and to improve human health and well-being.

Genome Sciences is a collaborative department supported by very different academic disciplines.  We work with a multitude of Program Investigators (PIs) in departments both on the UW campus as well as worldwide. The department has gone through significant expansion since its beginning in 2001 with annual grant awards of $68.5M in FY21.  The department has 62 training, teaching, and research faculty.

Position Purpose
The Department of Genome Sciences has an outstanding opportunity for a Research Scientist Engineer 1 (NE S 6). This researcher will perform molecular biological, cell biological, and imaging experiments in the Beliveau lab.

Position Complexities
This researcher must be capable of following established molecular and cellular protocols and capable of learning advanced fluorescent microscopy and basic programing with guidance from Beliveau lab members. As we are a new lab, strong organizational skills and a strong sense of initiative are also very important.

Dimensions and Impact to the University
This researcher will carry out work critical for the advancement of research projects in the Beliveau lab centered around understanding the 3D organization of the genome. This researcher will also help further collaborative research projects both within and beyond UW.

RESPONSIBILITIES
50%: Performing routine molecular and cellular biological tasks such as tissue culture and nucleic acid amplification.
25%: Furthering an independent research project and/or an existing research project in the lab with hands-on molecular and cellular biological work and microscopy.
15%: Analyzing data and preparing presentation materials (eg figures, slides).
10%: Assisting with lab organization and upkeep

REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor's degree in Biology, Cell Biology, or related area and 1 year's experience working in a laboratory/research setting.

Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except where there are legal requirements such as license/certification/registration.

Desired Qualification
Experience with fluorescence microscopy
Experience with Python, R, or a similar programming language.

Working Conditions
Wet lab (85% FTE), dry lab (15% FTE)
