Job Description

2,000,000+ is the number of compound samples managed by the compound management groups at the Novartis Institutes for BioMedical Research (NIBR). As member of the sample management group in Cambridge, you will enable more than 5000 scientists and 200 research projects at NIBR. Operational excellence and a collaborative mind-set are central to our purpose as sample management and process technology experts.

We are seeking a highly motivated individual to join our team in Cambridge as main operator of the local Compound Hub. Together with two contractors, you will focus on the daily receiving of compound samples, their processing, and their delivery to scientists. You will run and maintain the IT-integrated, semi-automate processes using liquid handlers and other lab devices.

You'll work in an open, interdisciplinary, and collaborative environment with compound sample management experts, automation engineers, and scientists. In an environment focused on operational excellence and process automation, you will be able to learn and grow as a compound sample logistics and process expert beyond your primary role, by supporting your colleagues in managing the automated compound stores and High-Throughput compound plate production.

Your Key Responsibilities:

- Operate the Compound Hub together with two colleagues through the timely processing of solid compound submissions and compound sample orders for compound solids and solutions

- Receive and distribute compound samples locally and globally

- operate and maintain the equipment liquid handlers, manual sample stores, balances, automated sorter, and more

- Act as the local point of contact for questions related to processes and orders

- Champion a culture of operational excellence and continuous improvement, deliver high quality products, and align with Service Level Agreements (SLA)

- Collaborate with the global Compound Hub teams on the resolution of issues and process improvement

Minimum Requirements

What You'll Bring to the Role:

- BS degree with 1 to 3+ years of additional experience in one or more of the following areas: sample logistics, natural sciences, or engineering

- Self-motivated and well-organized with excellent attention to details

- Enjoy working in a lab environment, performing routine operational tasks, maintaining best practices with high lab standards

- A great teammate who enjoys training others (e.g., contractors)

- Have strong written and oral communication skills and enjoy helping others

- Be curious with a strong interest to resolve technical issues and continuously improve processes

Desirable Skills:

- Knowledge of lab-IT and LIMS systems, instrument QC and maintenance processes

- Previous experience working in Compound Management or automation, preferably related to liquid handling techniques in the pharmaceutical or biotechnology field
