Job Summary

Research scientist with expertise in mechanical characterization, material synthesis, numerical modeling, and finite element analysis for the development of ultrasound stimulated shape memory polymers, as well as the investigation of ultrasound and vibration propagation within engineered structures. The core research activities encompass mechanical and acoustical simulations, along with experimental work on engineered structures within biological systems. The aim of this research is to discover practical applications in biomedical engineering, including shape-changeable catheters and conformable ultrasound transducers for sonography.

Essential Job Duties

Primary responsibilities include synthesizing and characterizing shape memory polymers, conducting mechanical tests to characterize material properties, and performing in vivo animal tests to ensure the performance and biocompatibility of the polymer within biological systems. Specifically, the job involves conducting experiments on human skin and bone phantoms using a vibration/ultrasound testing setup, as well as performing finite element modeling of biological systems to study acoustic wave propagation and heating. Other duties as assigned.

Basic Qualifications

  • Ph.D. degree in Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Medical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or similar.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ph.D. degree and a strong background in acoustic wave propagation in various forms of metamaterials.
  • Proficiency in conducting mechanical experiments and performing finite element analysis on acoustic models for comprehensive research.
