Job Summary
Full-Time position: Research Scientist to work on a set of geobiological problems with early evolution of life on Earth, prototyping of machine-learning approaches using metabolic and (meta)genomic data to solve geobiology problems that require improved understanding of the distribution and evolution of metabolic pathways in microbes. The position entails both independent work and collaborative work as part of a team. The collaborative work will include working in the field, lab, and on computational projects.
Essential Job Duties
  • Conducts scientific analysis of experimental results designed to detect and measure previously unobserved phenomena, engineering practices and outcomes
  • Develops complex database tools for retrieving, maintaining and reporting scientific data
  • Applies scientific knowledge to solve practical and relevant problems and engineering practices
  • Network expansion analyses.
  • Metabolic and (meta)genomic analyses.
  • Protein Language Model prototyping and analyses.
  • Scholarship, synthesis, writing.
  • Collaboration on group microbiology and computational projects in the field and in the lab.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Basic Qualifications
  • PhD in bioinformatics or computational biology.
  • 1 year working in academic research science beyond graduate training.
  • Knowledge of (Meta)genomics, comparative biology, biochemistry, microbiology, origin and early evolution of life.
  • Experience with data analysis and reduction, Python, bioinformatic processing of genomic data, metabolic modeling, machine-learning.

Preferred Qualifications
  • PhD in biology or Earth science.
  • 2 years of academic research beyond graduate training.
  • Knowledge of protein language model prototyping, database construction using the genome taxonomy database genomes, network expansion algorithms.
