Job Description

Senior Research Scientist

Boston College is seeking a senior experimental chemist with experience in designing, fabricating, constructing, operating and maintaining complex laboratory apparatuses to study ion chemistry in support of research being conducted by the Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL). The successful candidate is expected to guide and assist AFRL and other BC personnel in the refurbishment, reinstallation and return to working condition of the High Temperature Octopole (HT8P) ion-guide system currently located at Kirtland AFB, NM. Restoring the HT8P to operational status will require testing of the system comprised of the
HT8P, the fabrication of additional components to support the integration of the HT8P into a modified system, and running the system to the extent necessary to train other scientists to perform independent operation and maintenance of the equipment.

The candidate should have experience in designing and assembling sources for atmospheric and plasma chemistry, in addition to a general knowledge of plasma physics. A Ph.D. degree in physics, chemistry, engineering or equivalent experience is required. Experience in programming languages, such as MATLAB or Python, is desired.
